Bills ILB Arthur Moats is expected to see a ton of playing time in tonight’s preseason opener against the Redskins. With Paul Posluszny and Ryan Manalac both along with Keith Ellison, Buffalo enters tonight’s game with just four healthy inside linebackers including the rookie sixth-round pick.
The nicked up ILBs have already provided Moats with a ton more reps in the practice setting at camp than he ever anticipated.
“It’s helped a lot especially as far as making the transition,” said the former college defensive end. “When you get reps that’s going to be better than anything you do in the classroom. I can call everything off, but when you get on that field everything is fast, you’re tired and it definitely tests you. So I’m fortunate with these reps that I’ve been getting.”
Moats has seen time at the ‘mike’ and ‘will’ LB roles on the inside and has played more of a coverage LB role in the team’s nickel packages. With the strong likelihood that he’ll be one of four ILBs playing in tonight’s game he knows he’ll get more than his fair share of snaps to show the coaching staff what he can do when the lights are on.
“It’s unfortunate that we’ve had a lot of injuries at linebacker, but it’s helped me out in terms of getting me more reps and it’s going to get me into the game earlier and I’m going to get to play longer, so it’s definitely a good chance to audition,” he said.
