Bills OLB Aaron Maybin may be a bit short on success on the field thus far this season, but it hasn’t affected his focus on what his goals are for his second NFL campaign.
Maybin knows as well as anybody that he needs to produce in the pass rushing department to help fill the void left by veteran Aaron Schobel. Being a former first-round pick, he knows high expectations come with that title, but he’s not worried about what first-round status signifies to outside observers.
“As this point, it’s not about first-round draft pick (status). It’s about winning football games,” said Maybin. “As far as winning football games and me being in a position to help the team the best way I can, I still have some work to do. I think that I’m man enough to admit that I can look myself in the mirror and say that, as well as a whole lot of other people.
“The point in time comes where you really have to put some of that onus on yourself and you have to go out there and you have to make the effort to get things turned around. It’s got to come from somewhere. Me, personally, I’m just trying to do everything, from a professional standpoint, to where anything that I can do to help myself and this defense get there, I’ll try.”
One thing that can’t be disputed is Maybin’s work ethic, which has been full speed ahead from the day he got here. He’s hoping that work pays off sooner rather than later.
