Leodis McKelvin was spotted in the locker room Wednesday wearing a thick heating collar around his neck.
The collar, which resembles the device a victim of whiplash usually wears, is not for anything more than a stiff neck.
“I woke up Sunday morning with a crick in my neck,” said McKelvin. “I could barely turn my head.”
Buffalo’s athletic trainers worked on him all morning the day of the Jets game trying to loosen it up, but did not have much success. For a defensive back being unable to get his head around to get a peek at an incoming pass or see where he has help on a play makes the job more difficult.
“Every time I was not in the game I had that collar on,” McKelvin said. “It wouldn’t loosen up.”
McKelvin said Wednesday that’s it’s a lot better, but still stiff. To prevent the problem from happening again the cornerback intends to bring his own pillow to the team hotel the night before the games.
