Bills GM Buddy Nix appearing on XX 1090 Sportsradio in San Diego was asked about the possibility of having the number one pick and whether or not quarterback would be the selection made.
First, Nix outlined the job that Ryan Fitzpatrick has done since taking over in Week 3.
“We made a change after two games and released Trent Edwards,” said Nix. “We’re going with Ryan Fitzpatrick. He is not our problem. We need to get better players around him. He’s a good player and he’s a tough guy, smart. He does all he can do. We just need to give him more help.”
When pressed and asked if the organization would take a quarterback with the top pick should they land it, Nix did not say quarterback would be the pick.
“I wouldn’t commit to that,” he said. “We’ll take the best player. If we draft first, and I hope we win some games, but if we draft first we’ll take the best player available.”
Obviously making such a commitment would be premature. First, the Bills don’t know if they have the first pick yet. Second, they don’t know what underclassmen could possibly enter the draft pool. So as much as fans want guidance on that all important question, it’s unlikely to come any time soon if at all prior to draft day.
