It looks like the original AFL franchise that for its first year of existence played in the L.A. Coliseum could be returning to their roots come 2012.
That according to L.A. Times columnist T.J. Simers, who reports with the successful construction of a new downtown events center in Los Angeles, which includes a stadium, that the Chargers would likely announce in Feb. 2012 that they will not be renewing their lease in San Diego, and that they would play their games in L.A..
It still looks like there are a lot of hurdles for the Los Angeles developers to clear and they have to do it in the span of 14 months, but all mitigating factors seem to favor the Chargers moving back to L.A. in 2012, where they played in 1960, than staying in San Diego.
The report speculates that the Chargers would play the 2012 season in the L.A. Coliseum while the new stadium is completed.
