In a recently released mock draft by FOXSports.com they have both Auburn’s Nick Fairley and Alabama’s Marcel Dareus on the board for the Bills when they’re on the clock at 3. Guess who they’ve got Buffalo taking?
FOX Sports.com’s Peter Schrager in his mock draft has Buffalo taking DL Marcel Dareus over Nick Fairley with the third overall pick. He has Carolina taking Clemson DE Da’Quan Bowers and Denver taking LSU CB Patrick Peterson. Here was his reasoning as to why he think the Bills will take Dareus over Fairley.
Everyone’s talking about Nick Fairley after his dominant BCS Championship Game, but I actually like his in-state rival Dareus for Buffalo a bit more. With him fresh off a dominant Capital One Bowl, I could see Dareus getting the nod here over Fairley and being the man for Buffalo, lining up at defensive end in the 3-4. The Bills were last in the league in rush defense last year. No one’s running over Dareus — a smart and sound selection for the perennial AFC East doormats.
While I would be more than happy to see Dareus in a Bills uniform because I believe he much like Fairley could help Buffalo’s run defense, I think the one thing that Fairley has in his skill set is his pass rush ability. While the run defense is priority number one in terms of what needs fixing, improving the pass rush is a close second. Though Dareus has proven dominant against the run at times in his college career, Fairley is pretty stout as well, and he is superior to Dareus with his pass rush ability.
If Buffalo was in such a fortunate position as to have their choice between these two it would be a win-win situation. I like Dareus a lot, but I like Fairley just a bit more.
