Heisman trophy winner Cam Newton brought the media room at the NFL combine to a halt. In making an opening statement before taking questions he confirmed that he will do all the drills here at the combine.
“I’m excited to compete this week and you will see me doing everything possible to become the best player that I could possibly be,” said Newton. “I’m blessed to be in this whole situation. I couldn’t be in a better place than I am right now. My biggest thing right now is to prepare for the NFL. I know it’s going to be a challenging transition. I wanted to do something at the combine and come out here and compete and have fun competing.”
Newton also addressed the comments he made earlier this week about being “an entertainer and an icon.
“The recent comments I made were during the announcement of my new endorsement partnership. I was making the point that I want to be the best possible ambassador for them just like I want to be the best possible ambassador for whatever team I am lucky enough to play for.”
Newton did not comment on whether or not he met with the Bills during the interview process Friday evening. Quarterbacks have a second round of interviews Saturday night. Newton only confirmed that he met with the Cowboys.
