There were strong rumblings at the NFL combine last week that the Carolina Panthers may forgo helping their defense with the top overall pick and take a quarterback. Now there is a subsequent report out of Charlotte asserting the same thing.
According to the Charlotte Observer the Panthers will take long looks at Cam Newton and Blaine Gabbert (surprise, surprise). The report states the reason being that Da’Quan Bowers and Nick Fairley both had injuries during the season. Bowers had surgery for a torn lateral meniscus and Fairley had an AC joint separation.
But Fairley benched at the combine and Bowers will be testing his knee at his pro day on April 1st. So not sure why their injuries would be a defining reason the Panthers take a QB.
Regardless the fact remains that the monumental decision as to whether or not the Bills should take a potential franchise QB or an instant impact player at third overall might be made for them depending on who the Panthers take first, and Denver for that matter.
