ProFootballTalk has stepped into the mock draft arena and has the heavily hyped Heisman trophy winner going first overall.
With Cam Newton first to Carolina and Marcell Dareus second to Denver, PFT has the Bills landing Da’Quan Bowers third overall. Here’s their take on the pick.
The Bills would prefer Cam Newton, but won’t have a chance at him barring a trade up. While Blaine Gabbert should also be considered, the NCAA’s sack and tackle-for-loss leader will be difficult to resist for a club that ranked 27th in sacks last year. Ala Darnell Dockett in Arizona, Bowers would play end in Buffalo’s 3-4 and focus on rushing the passer.
With Auburn’s pro day set for Tuesday March 8th, reports are swirling that Carolina head coach Ron Rivera will be attending Cam Newton’s workout personally. Not anything terribly unusual, but anything related to Newton generally gets more attention. Rivera according to reports during the NFL combine met with Newton twice, both informally and behind closed doors. He also spoke of needing a franchise QB when addressing the media at the combine. So seeing Newton at the top of the board is not anything shocking at this point.
