A pair of CBSSports.com draft analysts have picked the same quarterback for the Bills in their mock drafts with the third overall pick.
Analysts Chad Reuter and Rob Rang both have Cam Newton to the Bills at three. Reuter has Gabbert and Bowers coming off the board before Buffalo is on the clock, while Rang has Gabbert and Dareus selected in front of Buffalo’s third pick. Here is their reasoning for the Newton pick for Buffalo.
Reuter – Newton seems a logical pick for head coach Chan Gailey, as he can work with the talented youngster while Ryan Fitzpatrick takes the reins for 2011.
Rang – The Bills have gone out of their way to laud the play of incumbent starter Ryan Fitzpatrick, but are also believed to be very high on Newton’s potential. I don’t necessarily believe the Bills would take Gabbert or any other offensive prospect over their huge needs on the defensive side of the ball, but GM Buddy Nix and coach Chan Gailey showed their willingness to gamble on athleticism last year with the selection of C.J. Spiller. Don’t put it past them to do the same this year should Newton be on the board.
