The general consensus among the draft analysts was that Colin Kaepernick was a 3rd or 4th round prospect due to his long wind up, pistol offense and propensity to use his legs. On the heels of a solid pro day workout, more and more analysts are now projecting him as an early 2nd round pick, which is probably where the NFL scouts had him all along.
NFL.com’s Gil Brandt said as much in his pro day report out today (Thursday) on Kaepernick’s workout.
His co-worker Mike Mayock echoed Brandt’s sentiments recently.
“He’s got a huge arm. He’s a great athlete, and he’s got a big frame,” said Mayock. “The kind of guy you want to buy into. He’s the kind of guy that’s going to rise a little bit. A lot of people thought he was a third, fourth, fifth-rounder heading into the season. Now, he’s probably a second round type of guy.”
His agent reportedly said Kaepernick had 10 private workouts/pre-draft meetings set up one of which took place Wednesday with the Eagles.
Kaepernick also has workouts scheduled with the Titans, Dolphins and 49ers. He has a pre-draft visit and workout set up with the Broncos.
Kaepernick showed great consistency in his college career in terms of TD-to-INT ratio as we profiled on Buffalobills.com. He also has clean intangibles in terms of leadership and character. It looks like he’s now being grouped with the likes of Christian Ponder and Andy Dalton in the top half of the second round.
