Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick’s performance in 2010 put the Bills brass in enough of a comfort zone where they felt like they didn’t have to draft a quarterback. Head coach Chan Gailey confirmed as much on Saturday.
“It gave us the freedom,” said Gailey. “Fitz’s abilities and his leadership and the way he played last year gave us the freedom to do what we needed to do with our football team.”
And that was addressing the defense with their first three picks. After the chance to take Cam Newton at three was no longer an option and Marcell Dareus was available, the likelihood of the Bills drafting a quarterback were dramatically reduced. Bills GM Buddy Nix said that the Bills will still go to camp with four quarterbacks and doesn’t rule out still taking one in the draft, but also suggested adding a veteran backup as a possibility.
