Aim of scouting moves

The Bills are all about building consensus when it comes to the draft and free agency process. Having a unifying vision for how the personnel will be improved on Buffalo’s roster is what GM Buddy Nix was after. He explains how these new additions to the pro and college scouting departments will accomplish that.

“We think what we did – it was an opportunity to make a change and to do some different things,” said Nix. “We wanted to make sure everybody is on the same page. So we have one guy over both departments. Both of these directors will be responsible for their department but we want to make sure everybody hitches to the same wagon and pulling in same direction. And by putting one guy over both of them you have that.

“Plus, they’ll be some overlap between the college guys who will do some pro stuff, especially in preseason. And conversely, there will be some pro guys including Tommy that will do some college scouting. I think that helps put everybody on the same page and that’s what we’re trying to do.”

Nix made it clear that just because a person’s title might have Pro Personnel in it doesn’t mean they’re not going to spend time on the college side. He wants the two sides of the personnel department intertwined to create an inter-working that makes the whole operation a well-oiled machine.
