According to a report in the Orange County Register (CA), the AEG group that is largely financing the construction of a pro football ready stadium in Los Angeles has made contact with five NFL clubs.
AEG President Tim Lieweke told the OC Register that his boss billionaire Phillip Anschutz is prepared to acquire majority ownership of an NFL club with the plan of relocating it to L.A..
Lieweke confirmed that he spoke with one of those franchises as recently as a week ago. He also confirmed that Anschutz is prepared to buy one of those five teams out of their existing lease to move them.
Obviously no teams are for sale, and the AEG group still has to reach a memorandum of understanding with the city of Los Angeles to move forward with their plans for the stadium by July 31st.
They hope to have their deal with the city completed by May 2012.
