Saturday night the Bills open their preseason with the Bears at Soldier Field, the same field where a scheduled Family Night practice had to be canceled due to unsafe playing conditions last Friday. But the Bears have communicated to the NFL and the Bills that the playing surface will be safe for the game this weekend.
Appearing on ESPN Radio in Chicago, Soldier Field GM Tim LeFevour said they’ve provided the Bills with updates on the playing surface.
“I have talked to the league a couple of times,” Phillips said on “The Waddle & Silvy Show” on ESPN 1000. “They just wanted to know what happened, what I thought about it, what we were going to do about it, and I’ve also obviously been in contact with the Buffalo Bills. They’re not here and they’ve appreciated the periodic updates.
Apparently the grass field was not being watered enough because the team likes the field to be dry to cater to Chicago’s team speed. Bears ownership publicly pledged to take a more active role in monitoring the care of the field.
