3 things we learned from the Bills Sunday

Head Coach Chan Gailey on the play of the safeties:
“What that tells you is that everybody else was in their spot because the safety is the extra guy in run support.  Everybody else was filling their gap.  They had nowhere to go but to go back to the safety when they were trying to run the football.  If you can continue to create that, they’re going to make a few tackles but they’re going to be cutting back, back, back and it’s not going to be when they’re in the open field trying to make tackles, they’re in more confined space.  And if you can keep that going then it gives you a chance. That’s what they’re supposed to do and that’s their job.  That’s why they’re here to make those plays.  I think we missed one open field tackle, what I call “real”, where we had a real shot at the guy and missed him.  I think we missed one in the ball game.”

September 13, 1992 — NFL RECORD, NO-PUNT GAME
In a wild shootout the Bills defeated the 49ers 34-31 at Candlestick Park. For the first time in NFL history, there were no punts attempted in a game.
