BDC 10/14: WNY Girls in Sports

Posted by Bills Daily Charge on October 14, 2011 – 9:22 am

DAILY REPORT
— The Buffalo Bills Healthy Zone Fieldhouse will host 250 girls this Saturday for WNY Girls in Sports.  The WNY Girls in Sports Clinic, in partnership with the United Way, Buffalo Public Schools and Girl Scout Council of WNY is an interactive sports clinic for female students from ten different “Closing the Gap” schools ages nine through twelve.  Various “stations” including golf, softball, soccer, tennis, basketball, volleyball, running, and children’s yoga will be set up around the Fieldhouse for girls to learn more about the positive impact that sports can have on their lives. These young girls will have the opportunity to participate in the different sports presented and learn more about sports and health related issues. The WNY Flash women’s professional soccer club will also be in attendance to speak about the benefits of athletics, a healthy lifestyle, and working hard to achieve goals. The WNY Girls in Sports program was founded in 2004 by Mary Wilson, wife of Buffalo Bills owner, Ralph Wilson. The goal of this popular and successful program is to empower, educate and motivate young girls through sports participation, learning life skills and awareness of Title IX and its history.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
LB Shawne Merriman
On getting pressure on the quarterback instead of sacks:
Our defensive backs are playing great so whenever we get a chance to pressure a quarterback up front and make them do some things they don’t want to do or get off the spot and throw on the run we’ve been doing a great job of getting that ball turned over when it’s in the air.  That’s a big credit to our defensive backs.
