BDC 11/22: Thanksgiving events

Posted by Bills Daily Charge on November 22, 2011 – 9:58 am

— Tonight, the Bills Toyota Rookie Club will serve Thanksgiving Dinner to approximately 300 children and families at the Northwest Buffalo Community Center at 5:30-7 pm. The families are community members that benefit from the services of the NW Buffalo Community Center. The players will share with the group what they are thankful for, and be available for photo opportunities.  This will be the 10th annual Thanksgiving Dinner event with the Bills Toyota Rookie Club and NW Buffalo Community Center.  The Buffalo Bills donate the Thanksgiving Dinner and the food is prepared by volunteers from the NW Buffalo Community Center.  The Buffalo Bills Toyota Rookie Club makes numerous appearances throughout the season and enables the team’s newest players to get involved and learn about the communities where their fans live.

— For the second consecutive year, the Drayton Florence Foundation wants to give thanks to US military families, who sacrifice so much for our country by providing them with full Thanksgiving dinners. Tonight, Buffalo Bills cornerback Drayton Florence will personally host the 29 military families, selected through a partnership with WNY Heroes, to provide them with their special holiday meal at Sky Zone Sports in Cheektowaga at 7 pm. In addition, Florence will sign autographs for the general public at Sky Zone Sports from 6:30 – 7:00 pm.  For more information go to

— Bills players and members of the team’s coaching staff went to Valley Community Center last night to hand deliver 200 frozen Thanksgiving meals that they purchased for Western New York families.  Each “meal” is designed to feed a family of 12.  The contents of each meal that were purchased and will be distributed to each family are listed below:

  • 15-20 lbs frozen turkey
  • 1 sweet potato pie
  • 1 apple pie
  • 12 fresh bakery rolls
  • 1 5lbs bag of white potatoes
  • 1 5lbs bag of sweet potatoes
  • 3 cans of corn
  • 3 cans of green beans
  • 2 boxes of stuffing
  • 2 cans of home style gravy
  • 2 cans of cranberry sauce
  • gallon of sweet tea
  • gallon of fruit punch

Through the partnership between the Buffalo Bills and the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County, the 200 families are from the Valley Community Center and Old First Ward Community Center. The two community centers serve the majority of the South Buffalo community.

Head Coach Chan Gailey
On the guys being angry with the recent games:
If you’re not upset with what’s happened to us going from 5-2 to 5-5 you better get out of the business. I told the players that. Just pack it up, take your money and go home because if you’re satisfied with being a loser you oughta not play the game.
