— The Buffalo Bills announced that the team has claimed RB Tashard Choice.
Choice joins the Bills after being released by the Washington Redskins on Tuesday. Choice spent three weeks with the Redskins. Choice started the 2011 season with the Dallas Cowboys where he produced 75 yards on 28 carries in the first six games of the season. He was released by Dallas on October 28 and signed with Washington on October 31.
Choice originally joined the NFL as a fourth round draft pick (122nd overall) in 2008 out of Georgia Tech. He has played in 55 career games (four starts) and produced 1,146 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns in his NFL career. He also has 499 receiving yards on 65 receptions. Choice is 5-10, 212 pounds and is a native of Hampton, GA.
RB Fred Jackson has been placed on injured reserve after suffering an injury to his fibula on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. Jackson leads the NFL with six 100-yard rushing games and ranks second in the NFL with 1,376 scrimmage yards. He also ranks third in the NFL with 934 rushing yards.
Bills Head Coach Chan Gailey issued the following statement on today’s transaction.
“Further tests on Fred’s injured leg have shown that he has a broken bone in his leg, so that’s disappointing news for our team and certainly for Fred. He was having a great year. The process for Fred to return to the field would most likely take him through the end of the season, so we have made the difficult decision to place him on Injured Reserve. This creates an opportunity for CJ and, as we announced earlier today, he will be our starting running back for this week’s game against the Jets. We have also claimed off waivers Tashard Choice and he is expected to participate in practice beginning tomorrow.”

QUOTES FROM MEDIA DAY
Head Coach Chan Gailey
On any injury updates with RB Fred Jackson.
Fred’s not good. I know he’ll miss this one, and then we’ll have to decide what happens from there.
On RB CJ Spiller stepping in:
It’ll be his opportunity. We’ve had a lot of guys that have taken opportunities and done well with them and I fully expect that from him.
On what Spiller does well:
He’s an explosive runner. He’s a good cut back runner. He can get from one side to the other pretty quickly. You try to find different ways to be able to use him. A lot of people think that we’ll run outside the whole day because he’s a fast guy, try to get him on the edge. That’s not necessarily the case. He can run up inside too. We won’t change it a lot.
QB Ryan Fitzpatrick
On the last game against the Jets being closer than the score showed:
I think that was one that got away from us in the second half. We know what we’re going to get out of them. We’re going to get a lot of man coverage. It’s going to get real physical up front and we’ve got to do a better job with being physical, winning the one-on-ones and completing the throws. With the Jets it’s going to be a tough game for us, it always is. They’re a great defense and they’ve showed it all year long.
On the Jets NT Sione Pouha and his dominance up front:
They’ve got there guys that are hard to move in the middle there. When they’re getting either pushed back or the stalemate at the line it makes it tough for us. It will be an emphasis for us, to get some movement on the line which will be a hard thing to do.
RB C.J. Spiller
On possibly getting more touches with Fred Jackson’s injury
Not necessarily the excitement, I just have to be ready. I’ve been saying it all year long, come in, try and learn as much as I can and be ready to go once your number is called. So, we’ll see how everything plays out this week, and hopefully we’ll have him. He’s really the MVP of our team so we definitely need him out there.
On being familiar with the opponent if he does have to carry the workload
Without a doubt, either way it goes it doesn’t matter who you’re playing, you have to be ready to go. The good thing is I’ve learned so much from Fred and you just got to know what they’re trying to do and how they’re going to try and play and like I said I’ll be well prepared because like I said earlier you never know when your opportunity comes.
