C.J. Spiller has undoubtedly improved these last few weeks and has the production to prove it after his 167 yards from scrimmage effort last Sunday against Miami. But the speedy Spiller is still trying to slow down in one particular area of his game.
The term ‘set-up man’ has a much different meaning in baseball, but for Spiller he wants to be a better set-up back in terms of juking defenders out of their shoes.
“I’m still making my moves too early, but overall I’m getting better,” he said. “It’s very hard but you can still control it. You don’t have to do it too early, especially when you’re about eight yards away from a guy because there aren’t too many guys you’re going to make miss when you’re eight yards away. That’s the thing that I’m trying to constantly work on. Getting closer and just hitting with a one step and go.”
Spiller believes if he waits a step or two longer to set up a defender to make him miss he’ll be even more effective than he has been the past few weeks.
