The Bills 2012 10th overall NFL draft pick DB Stephon Gilmore takes a photo with two members of the Wounded Warriors organization last night at Radio City Music Hall.

–Gilmore is the first South Carolina product drafted by Buffalo in the first round of an NFL Draft and 11th overall

–He is the second defensive back from South Carolina to be drafted by the Bills, joining DB Ko Simpson (2006 – 4th round – 105th overall)

–Gilmore becomes the 12th defensive back drafted by the Bills in the first round, most recently 2008 (CB Leodis McKelvin – 11th overall)

–Gilmore is the 10th player from South Carolina selected in the first round of an NFL draft and fourth defensive back: CB Jonathan Joseph (2006 – 24th overall – Cincinnati), CB Dunta Robinson (2004 10th overall – Houston) and DB Rick Sanford (1979 – 25th overall – New England)

GM Buddy Nix
On what he likes about the selection of South Carolina DB Stephon Gilmore:
“We talk about needing corners with some size and adding speed to our team. I think we did both with (Gilmore). (Gilmore) has been a 40 game starter in a pretty good league. He has good ball skills, he has great speed, and he is a good tackler. He was high on our draft board from the start. I thought when corners started going that there might be a good chance he would not be there. But we were fortunate, I think, to get him. He will help our football team.”

Head Coach Chan Gailey
On what he likes best about DB Stephon Gilmore:
“First of all I don’t think you could ever have enough good corners in the NFL, and more so today than I believe 10 to 15 years ago and it’s even more so today I believe. You have to have good corners. This gives us the opportunity to have two good young corners to work with that are athletic, they’re both over six foot, they’re fast, they can run, they’re hitters. We’ve made a conscious effort to upgrade our defense in the offseason and Buddy and the personnel people have done a great job of that. It’s going to pay dividends in the long run for us.”

DB Stephon Gilmore
On what stood out from his visit to Buffalo:
“A lot of stuff stood out. It’s a town like where I’m from, more of a laid back town. They’ve got great fans. Fans stick to their football team no matter what and I’m looking forward to coming in and making my fans happy.”

The Bills’ 25th Anniversary team, voted on by a team of local media members, was announced. The players selected were: QB Jack Kemp, RB O.J. Simpson, RB Cookie Gilchrist, WR Elbert Dubenion, WR Bob Chandler, TE Ernie Warlick, T Joe Devlin, G Billy Shaw, C Al Bemiller, P Paul Maguire, NT Fred Smerlas, DT Tom Sestak, DE Ben Williams, DE Ron McDole, LB John Tracey, LB Jim Haslett, LB Mike Stratton, CB Robert James, CB George “Butch” Byrd, S George Saimes, S Steve Freeman, K Pete Gogolak and owner Ralph C.
