Ultimate Gilmore fans at camp

It’s fun to cheer for your favorite football player when you go to the same college as he does. It’s exciting to see your favorite player get drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft…and it’s especially a dream come true when your favorite college football player is the number one draft pick by the team that you have cheered for your entire life.

Brothers, Sean and Brendan Murphy from Sumter, South Carolina have always been die hard Bills fans. Sean, just graduating from USC and Brendan, about to be a junior, have followed Stephon Gilmore his entire career. Traveling to Bills Training Camp at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY was a no brainer for these motivated fans, as they made the 14-hour trek to see Gilmore practice in Bills red, white and blue.

“We decide to come up, see Stephon Gilmore and see him in action,” said Sean Murphy. “We planned this trip because of Bills camp.”

The football related trip began with a stop at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Then it was on to see Gilmore, as the pair headed to St. John Fisher.

“I have seen all of Gilmore’s games,” said Sean Murphy.

The Murphy brothers have been Gilmore fans since Gilmore was in High School. Watching Stephon get drafted in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft by their favorite team gave them yet another reason to cheer for the Bills.

“We were sitting on the couch chanting ‘Gilmore, Gilmore,’ said Sean Murphy. “Once it happened, we started crying. The next morning, we were reading in the school paper about Gilmore being drafted, so you were actually reading stuff about your favorite college team and your favorite pro team all at once.”

Seeing Gilmore practice was the next check on these Bills fans list. Murphy, sporting a newly purchased #27 Gilmore jersey, and his brother Brendan arrived at camp. While watching Gilmore practice was a treat for these super fans, what happened next topped it all.

When practice ended, the pair waited and watched along the fence at Growney Stadium. They saw Gilmore move toward them and stop to meet them and sign autographs.

“Meeting Stephon was flat out amazing,” said Sean Murphy. “Being able to meet an all-time Gamecock great in your favorite NFL team’s jersey is surreal.”

The group talked with Gilmore about USC, and how they have been a Bills fan their entire life, and are ecstatic to have him on the team.

“It was one of the best moments of my life,” said Murphy. “This is a dream come true, seeing Bills fans all around. This memory will last a lifetime.”
