Bills head coach Chan Gailey explained why on 14 offensive plays the starting offense threw 14 passes.
Gailey said it stemmed from the way the Washington defense was playing them.
“If they stayed in their 3-4 seven man front principle we were going to throw the football,” said Gailey. “That’s what we went into the game planning to do. We were trying to hit Fred and C.J. on some passes and get them involved. They didn’t play nickel against our ones so we had to throw it every time.
“We don’t want to do that. That wouldn’t be the plan going in, but we’re in the middle of installation (in camp). We didn’t want to go out there and put a plan for the 3-4 in totally against the ones. So we said we would work on our no huddle and that’s what we did.”
