For players on Buffalo’s roster that are battling for spots a bit lower than starting roles on the depth chart, the time to make a move to secure one is now.
Knowing that the starters are going to play up to three quarters of preseason game number three next week, there will be very little time to make an impression in that game before first cuts on Aug. 27th when the roster is reduced to 75. So tonight’s preseason game is pivotal for players scraping to nail down one of the last spots on the 53-man squad.
Head coach Chan Gailey agrees that this game would be a great time to have a good performance.
“It is,” he said. “They need to show what they can do and really what it boils down to is special teams is the place to make their statement. If they can go make some plays there it really helps their stock in our mind. And they’re not just playing for us, they’re playing for 31 other teams too because everybody checks out all the players on everybody’s squad.”
