BDC 8/27: Bills vs. Steelers Recap

–The Buffalo Bills yesterday released the following nine players: LB Danny Batten, WR David Clowney, DE Sean Ferguson, CB Prince Miller, TE Fendi Onobun, DT Jay Ross, WR Derek Session, DB Nick Sukay, OG Jake Vermiglio. Buffalo also announced that TE Mike Caussin has been placed on Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform. Caussin was placed on Active/Physically Unable to Perform on July 25th. The team also reached an injury settlement with DB Josh Nesbitt and released him from Injured Reserve. Nesbitt was Waived/Injured on August 22nd.Buffalo’s roster now stands at 75 players.

— The Buffalo Bills were defeated by the Pittsburgh Steelers 38-7 on Saturday night at Ralph Wilson Stadium in front of 67,383 fans. RB Fred Jackson put the Bills on top early by carrying the ball three times and punching it in for a score on the Bills second drive of the game, giving Buffalo a 7-0 lead. DE Mario Williams’ anchored the other side of the ball for the Bills in the early going, tallying his first two sacks of the preseason in the first half to help the Buffalo defense hold the Steelers scoreless until midway through the second quarter. The Bills wouldn’t be able to hold onto their lead with the Steelers controlling the second half and scoring 24 unanswered points. QB Ryan Fitzpatrick went 7-of-18 for 89 yards on the night. WR Stevie Johnson led the Bills in receiving, grabbing three catches for 36 yards.

On the special team’s performance being very consistent:
“(They are) playing well. They have done a great job. The punters have done a good job, had another good punt return or two tonight. They have done some good things. They really have. I was glad to see Brad (Smith) with the kickoff return. That was great.”


WR Stevie Johnson led the Bills in receiving, grabbing three catches for 36 yards.

Bills DE Mario Williams recorded his first two sacks of the preseason on Saturday night.

Bills RB Fred Jackson ran for 34 yards on seven carries in the first half of Saturday’s game and registered the team’s only touchdown.
