BDC 9/5: Bills Re-Sign WR Ruvell Martin

Posted by Bills Daily Charge on September 5, 2012 – 10:00 am

–The Buffalo Bills announced yesterday that the Bills, Baker Victory Services-ChildPro, KaBOOM!, United Way of Buffalo and Erie County and the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council will host a design day today for a new playground. Baker Victory Services-ChildPro has been awarded a new playground through the NFL-United Way Hometown Huddle – a league-wide day of service designed to bring awareness and impact to the issue of youth health and fitness. Children from the OLV School and community will draw their dream playgrounds, as elements from the drawings will be incorporated in the final design for the new community playground to be built October 23rd. The new playground will provide children in the Lackawanna community – including those with special needs –a safe place to play. Currently, children served by Our Lady of Victory School do not have any playground equipment to enjoy. A new playground provides children with the ultimate opportunity to PLAY 60-keeping the Buffalo Bills and the NFL’s goal of encouraging America’s youth to be active for at least 60 minutes each day.

–The Buffalo Bills announced yesterday that the team has signed WR Ruvell Martin to the 53-man roster. In accordance with team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Martin re-joins the Bills after being released on August 31st. The Bills also placed CB Ron Brooks on Injured Reserve/Designated for Return. Under this designation, Brooks will be eligible to return to practice after being on Injured Reserve for at least six weeks. He will be eligible to return to the Active List after being on Injured Reserve for at least eight weeks.

–The Buffalo Bills announced yesterday that the team has signed DT Jay Ross to the Practice Squad. Ross re-joins the team after being released on August 26th. He spent the final 10 weeks of the 2011 season on Buffalo’s Practice Squad. The 6-3, 319-pound East Carolina product entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with New Orleans in 2010, and spent a portion of the 2010 season on Green Bay’s Practice Squad.

The Bills opened the regular-season at home with a 38-14 victory over New England in Bill Parcells’ first game as Patriots head coach and rookie Drew Bledsoe’s first start.

Bills Head Coach Chan Gailey
On the combination of TE Scott Chandler and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick:
“You all deal with combinations much more than I do. It is whoever is open, let’s throw it to him and let him catch it. Some weeks it may be one guy, some weeks it may be another guy. Some weeks it may be two guys and next week we run it 35 times. I am not into combinations—I am into winning. I do not worry about that kind of stuff. To your point, the comfort level between those two is a lot higher than it was at any point last year.”

The Bills re-signed WR Ruvell Martin yesterday. He caught seven passes for 82 yards and tied for second in special teams tackles (9) for Buffalo in 2011, after being signed to the 53-man roster on September 13th. The 6-4, 214-pound Saginaw Valley State product has totaled 72 catches for 1,088 yards and seven touchdowns in 68 games with nine starts since entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent with San Diego in 2004.

ESPN’S@jasonromano tweeted this photo of former Bills QB and Hall of Famer Jim Kelly in the green room with this year’s Bills Wall of Fame inductee and former GM Bill Polian. Kelly is part of ESPN’s ‘car wash’ today.
