LB Cornelius Bennett

The Bills made one of the biggest trades in team history, acquiring rookie LB Cornelius Bennett from Indianapolis as part of a three-team, 10-player trade. The Bills gave up their first-round pick in 1988, their first- and second-round picks in 1989 and RB Greg Bell, who went to the Los Angeles Rams. As a part of the trade, star RB Eric Dickerson went from the Rams to the Colts.

DE Chris Kelsay talked about the leaders of the team stepping up and maybe they need to put more pressure on guys in the room. He also pointed the finger at himself and said ‘Hey, if I am not doing it I expect Kyle Williams to come over and basically tell me (get going).’ Beyond Kelsay, if this is something that has to be handled by the players internally and now by Buddy (Nix), Chan (Gailey) or whoever, how confident are you in the amount of leaders you have on the team that they can do that? Get to the guys that we are underperforming and get this thing straightened out.
“I know we have talked about leadership before and I certainly, personally, feel that there are a lot of leaders on this team. When you get to this level, guys have been leaders every step of the way. Last year when we were 5-2 after seven games I remember everyone talked about the leadership that we had on this club and because we are 3-4 right now that is in question with a majority of the same guys and same captains in place. Guys at any level, when you are playing in college or you are playing in the NFL, guys have a way of managing themselves and leading the way. Between some of the guys you mentioned and obviously Fred (Jackson), (Ryan Fitzpatrick) and Stevie (Johnson), we have had a lot of guys who put a lot of time in (here) in Buffalo. We certainly feel that we have what it takes on the leadership side.”
