He’s been working out in L.A. this offseason where he’s run into other NFL players and if he’s talking to a prospective free agent Stevie Johnson has been making his Buffalo pitch.
Appearing on NFL Network on their NFL AM show Wednesday morning, Johnson was asked who he’s tried to recruit to sign in Buffalo. The Bills top wideout admitted he tried to land some big time receiving talent. Unfortunately one re-signed with his current team while the other didn’t sound receptive to the idea of playing in Buffalo.
“I was trying to get Bowe to come and he ended up re-signing,” said Johnson. “I ran into (Greg) Jennings and I was like, ‘Man dog c’mon.’ But he said he wants to be in warm weather or stay in Green Bay.”
Jennings is rumored to be a target for Miami knowing head coach Joe Philbin previously worked with him in Green Bay.
Johnson also talked to another impending free agent receiver that is coming off a 51-catch season in St. Louis and was listed in our WR free agency preview on Buffalobills.com.
“I tried to get a few guys. I talked to my boy Brandon Gibson, who is in St. Louis,” said Johnson. “He’s a stud, and Dashon Goldson, I talk to him a lot. Anybody is good enough to come to Buffalo and turn things around because we’ve got guys in place. Maybe we’re missing that one extra guy or two guys, but I think if we can grab just one big name in free agency we’ll be alright.”
Gibson is 6’0” and 205 pounds, and only lacks the pull away speed after the catch.
