Takeo still wants to play

At age 36, with 15 years experience in the NFL, Takeo Spikes has logged a lot of miles in the NFL.

But the former Bills LB wants more.

In an appearance Thursday night on The John Murphy Show, Spikes made it clear he still wants to play in the NFL, after being released by the San Diego Chargers earlier this month.  And he said being cut by San Diego did not come as much of a surprise, with a new GM and Head Coach taking over the Chargers.

“Whenever you get a new regime coming in, they don’t want any excuses, as far as the reason why they could not turn it around,” Spikes told host John Murphy.  “If they’re going to go down, they’re going to go down with the decision that they make with their players.”

Spikes has the dubious distinction of playing the most regular season games in NFL history, without appearing in a playoff game.  He’s played 219 games as of the end of last season.

“It bothers me when people keep harping on it,” he said on the radio show.  “I know it’s not me.  I’m not playing track.  I’m not bowling.  If it was a solo sport, I’d fess up to it.  But that’s why it’s the greatest game of all time, because it’s the greatest team game.  It’s the greatest team game of all time,  and things haven’t been going as well as I wanted it to, in that aspect.  That’s the reason why.”
