“Biscuit”-maybe Buffalo’s Best all time LB?

When he announced his retirement this week, Chicago Bears LB Brian Urlacher named Ray Lewis of the Ravens as the best middle LB in NFL history. But what about Buffalo Bills history?

Last year, an informal fan poll on ranked Cornelius Bennett as the Bills all time LB. It was an unscientific, informal poll with 168 respondents on the website. And 43-percent of those responding ranked “Biscuit” Buffalo’s all time backer.

:I’ll go with the fans,” Bennett said Thursday night, in an appearance on The John Murphy Show. “They welcomed me with open arms, they trusted me, I’ll have to trust them again.”

Bennett finished ahead of former teammate Darryl Talley in the fan balloting for the team’s best LB of all time. But “Biscuit” acknowledges that Talley and another Bills LB teammate of his, Shane Conlan, deserve recognition as top linebackers in franchise history.

“We did have a good group of guys, with Shane and Darryl,” he said. “There’s no better group of guys I enjoyed playing with anywhere. The other teams I played with, guys don’t even come close.”

Host John Murphy asked Bennett if he feels the talented Buffalo defense of the Super Bowl era was overshadowed by the highly publicized, fast-paced “K-Gun Offense.”

“No doubt about it,” he answered. “That was fine with us, though. We went out and did our job, got the ball back to the offense so we could sit on the sidelines and watch that K-Gun go to work. Sometimes it was too perfect for us. We sometimes had to ask those guys to slow it down a little bit so could get a little breather.”
