BDC 10/7: Lewis to Start Sunday

Posted by Bills Daily Charge on October 7, 2013 – 10:17 am

HC Doug Marrone announced this morning on WGR 550 that the team will elevate QB Thaddeus Lewis from the practice squad and will start Lewis on Sunday when the Bills take on the Bengals. Lewis started the Cleveland Browns’ 2012 regular season finale against Pittsburgh, completing 22-of-32 passes for 204 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

–The Buffalo Bills announced yesterday that the team has signed P Brian Moorman. In accordance with team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Moorman re-joins the Bills for his second stint with the franchise. He spent his first 12 seasons in the NFL with Buffalo (2001 – Week Three of 2012). Moorman currently holds franchise records in gross punting average (43.9), punts inside the 20 (243) and total punts (862). He was twice selected to the NFL Pro Bowl as a member of the Bills following the 2005 and 2006 seasons. His 265 punts inside the 20 since the 2001 season are tied for second among active NFL punters.

For the second week in a row, the Bills rallied in spectacular fashion, scoring 24 points in a 6:03 span to beat the Los Angeles Raiders, 38-24 at Rich Stadium. The game was played on Sunday Night and broadcast on the TNT cable network.

QB Thaddeus Lewis will be elevated from the Bills practice squad and will start for the team on Sunday. Lewis was acquired by the Bills on August 25th in a trade with the Detroit Lions. Lewis went on to face the Lions in the Bills preseason finale, completing 7-of-16 pass attempts for 132 yards and a score after entering the game in the second quarter.

DOUG MARRONE, Buffalo Bills Head Coach on WGR 550
Q: What about Thad Lewis’ physical attributes or his intangibles have you liked?
A: He’s very bright; he’s a very bright young man. We threw him to the fire when he came in here from Detroit that was really just two or three days working on the offense. Now he’s been here, he understands it completely; we’ve got to put it to his strengths. He can run, so whether it’s read option or scrambling or extending a play, he has the ability to do that. He has a great arm, he really does. A lot of times with not just the quarterback position, but other positions is you have to create opportunity. You have to create opportunity to see what people have and they have to take advantage of it. He has a great opportunity for himself.
