Bills safety Jairus Byrd realizes the inability to come to an agreement on a long term contract coupled with a foot ailment that many do not fully understand led to some outside observers doubting the safety’s commitment to the team. Byrd however, is not focused on winning the favor of the fans that doubted him. He’s just focused on winning.
“I’m not trying to win them back over,” said Byrd. “I’m just trying to go out there and play my game, do what we can to win games for these guys in the locker room that have played hard, that I’ve been with for four years. That’s what we’re going to try to do is go win games.”
Byrd said there were occasions where he was tempted to respond to the naysayers who were out there, whether it was Twitter or elsewhere, but instead is choosing to respond with his play.
“Human nature is you want to say something, but at the end of the day, I just realize that it’s part of this game,” said Byrd. “They’re entitled to their own opinion. I understand why they’d be upset. I’m completely confident in myself. I know where I stand and my character. What another person says about me isn’t going to change how I know I am. It is what it is. I don’t blame them for that, and that’s fine.”
Byrd knows as well as any other player that winning is the best way to win fans over.
