Will Wolford, Former Buffalo Bills Left Tackle on the John Murphy Show
Q: Do you see the gap narrowing in terms of talents between left tackle and right tackle?
A: I’m not really sure. It seems to me that left tackles are still a little bit more athletic and they’re probably going to take on the more athletic pass rusher. Right tackles can be a much bigger, strong player. It seems that most teams in their running attack are still more right handed than left handed as far as which side of the ball they’re going to hit first. I think people try to be as balanced as possible and maybe with a lot of self-scouting they make sure their run-pass is 50% and their run left-right is 50% and their run inside-outside is 50%. Maybe they are trying to balance things up, which would bode with your theory, but it sure seems to me that most right tackles are still bigger stronger guys and left tackles are probably a little bit mope athletic because of the players they’re going to face.
