Andre Reed remembers his own draft day

Before announcing the Bills second-round pick in tomorrow night’s NFL Draft, Andre Reed is making his rounds in New York City for the first time since his Hall of Fame election.

“It’s great to be back,” he said. “I’m feeling the goosebumps now. That was such a great spectacle not only for me but for the other six guys that are going in with me this year.”

A fourth-round pick by the Bills in 1985, Reed says he remembers the day he was drafted like it wasn’t some 30 years ago.

“I was at my house. I was with the family. I didn’t know where Buffalo was,” Reed said, laughing. “I was like, ‘Where’s Buffalo?  Is that by New York City?’ It turned out to be my home for 16 years.

“It was a very exciting day. A kid from a small school at that time, there weren’t too many kids from there on NFL rosters. I was just like any other kid. I wanted the opportunity to show what I got regardless of what school I went to and I had some good people around me. I think that’s why I stayed in the league because they taught me not only how to stay in the league but how to get better each year.”

Reed stopped by an NFL Play 60 event in Chelsea Pier to play a little ball with a group of New York-New Jersey students and talk to them about being safe through Heads Up Football skills and tips.
