Longtime Steelers scout Bill Nunn, who passed away this spring, and mentored dozens of young personnel people in the Pittsburgh organization including Bills GM Doug Whaley, had the bench from where he’d watch Steelers practice at training camp dedicated in his memory today. Whaley made sure to be on hand for the ceremony at St. Vincent’s college.
“It’s good to be back, especially on a day where we were dedicating a bench in the honor of the late Bill Nunn. A lot of you guys who know me know that he’s one of the main reasons I’m in front of you today,” said Whaley.
Whaley did not come to the ceremony empty handed. He also brought a framed article by SI.com’s Peter King, chronicling Whaley’s daring trade in round one to land Sammy Watkins. Whaley largely credited Nunn’s advice to not be afraid to make a deal and presented the gift to Nunn’s family members on hand.
Here are a few photos from the dedication.
