Bills WR Sammy Watkins was unable to play on Saturday due to his bruised ribs suffered the week before at Pittsburgh. Head coach Doug Marrone provided an update on his status and why he was made inactive for the Bucs game.
“At the end of the day they told me he couldn’t play,” said Marrone of Watkins. “I know there were mixed reports out there. I think Sammy spokes to someone and said, ‘If coach wants me to play then I can play.’ And then the doctors said he couldn’t play. I told Sammy that you can’t talk about injuries. That’s what gets you in a bind and it doesn’t make us look good when you start saying those things. The doctor, at the end of the day, said he couldn’t play.”
No word on whether or not Watkins will be able to practice fully when the team resumes work on Monday.
