Bills WR Sammy Watkins was a full participant in practice Wednesday coming off an early exit from the team’s preseason finale when a hard hit re-aggravated his bruised ribs. Head coach Doug Marrone took a wait and see approach to Watkins’ availability for Sunday.
“I think we’re just going to wait and see for the game,” said Marrone. “I think it’s hard to judge right now.”
Watkins also addressed where he’s at concerning Sunday’s game against the Bears.
“Yeah, I’m ready to play. But the real thing is you don’t know whether you’re 100 [percent] one day, 80 [percent], 90 [percent], until I get that first hit. That explains it all,” he said. “Now I know how it feels to get hit, and what the outcome will be. A lot of pain, but it’s not going to take me out of the game. Just get a breather and come back in the game.”
When asked if he’s consciously thinking about his ribs he said for the most part he isn’t.
“It’s when you get hit. When I’m running round, I don’t feel it,” he said. “I’m out there basically just practicing and getting my job done. I got hit the other day and it felt pretty funny, but now I know what it takes and how it feels.
