He didn’t make the Colts roster coming out of training camp this summer, but Bills former third-round pick Kelvin Sheppard landed on Miami’s roster Monday.
Sheppard was signed by the Dolphins not long after it was announced that starting OLB Danell Ellerbe was lost for the season with a hip injury suffered in Miami’s Week 1 win over New England. Sheppard appeared in 15 games last year for Indianapolis making seven starts. He had 46 tackles and a fumble recovery in 2013.
Sheppard was the player the Bills traded to the Colts in exchange for Jerry Hughes, who is coming off a 10-sack season last year. No word yet on whether Sheppard will be in the lineup this week for Miami.
Ellerbe shifted to OLB this year for Miami after playing in the middle in 2013. He swapped spots with Koa Misi, who is the middle linebacker for Miami this season. Sheppard is best suited for the middle linebacker role, so it’ll be interesting to see if they transition Misi back outside.
