Players say Marrone shouldn’t take heat
Posted by on December 8, 2014 – 12:48 amAfter Sunday’s loss to Denver that included 11 penalties for 98 yards for the Bills, head coach Doug Marrone took responsibility for the team not playing more disciplined against Denver. When his players heard about that they said there’s just one place the blame should go and that’s on them.
“That’s my fault. No doubt about it,” said Marrone in his postgame press conference. “I have to do a better job. That’s my fault that falls on me.”
Bills TE Lee Smith disagreed.
“We definitely appreciate that,” said Smith of Marrone taking the blame. “That means he has our backs, but it’s not on him. We’re the ones out there. He’s not the one out there getting penalties, we are. Sure, he might not have mentioned it during the week as much as he wishes and maybe he’s beating himself up about it, but it’s on us as players and we’ve got to get it fixed.”
