Dareus grants hometown holiday wishes

In partnership with the nonprofit Together Assisting People (TAP), Bills DT Marcell Dareus and former Alabama teammate and DB for the Rams Mark Barron filled the Christmas wishlists of 20 families in the Birmingham and Mobile communities.

Dubbed “The Marcell Dareus and Mark Barron Christmas Wish List Holiday Giveback,” contestants were asked to repost a flyer Dareus put on Twitter and Instagram, and write a short message about why they deserved to be a winner. In the end, winners received $500 for Christmas for a total of $10,000 given to hardworking families who deserved a break on Christmas. Since both Dareus and Barron were still mid-season during the holidays, their family members helped deliver the good news and prizes.

“I know what it feels like to go without during this time, so I wanted to make sure to do whatever I could to
lighten the load of families who deserved a break during this time,” said Dareus.

“TAP’s mission is to prepare athletes to be successful in life outside of athletics and this holiday giveback
provided an awesome opportunity for Dareus and Barron to do just that,” said TAP’s founder Chris Rogers.

“This blessing from you all made it possible for my boys to wake up on Christmas morning with a smile on their face that lit up a room. I am truly and forever grateful for being chosen as a recipient for the #MDChristmaswish,” said Ms. Shell, one of the recipients of the prizes.
