He was the only restricted free agent on Buffalo’s roster. But now OT Chris Hairston is an unrestricted free agent who can sign with any team in the league.
Buffalo had until Tuesday at 4 pm to tender Hairston a qualifying offer to give themselves the right of first refusal should he sign a long-term contract with another NFL club. The Bills chose not to do so thereby making him an unrestricted free agent.
Hairston, 25, missed all of the 2013 season with as he was placed on the Reserve/Non-football illness list. When he came back in 2014 Hairston had gained a lot of excess weight that took a long time to shed last year. As a result Hairston was relegated to backup duty and served on the offensive line mainly on special teams plays.
In his career Hairston has appeared in 42 games including 15 starts, all of which came in the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
