Bills head coach Rex Ryan said he would hold an open quarterback competition for the starting role for his offense. So what does new tight end Charles Clay think of what he and his other offensive teammates have to work with at QB?
In an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio Monday, Clay when asked about Matt Cassel and EJ Manuel specifically, laid out his thoughts on Buffalo’s roster of quarterbacks.
“I think those are two qualified guys. EJ being a young guy and bringing in Matt Cassel, who has been around the league and knows the ropes and can kind of guide him,” Clay said. “It’s always good to have that competition to have someone push you. And not even just those two, they signed Tyrod Taylor and brought him in to throw him in there. You’ve got guys who can add a completely different dimension to your offense. Guys who can move around, and having that veteran leadership in Cassel, a guy who has done it and a guy who smart, knows defenses and knows how to read coverages to kind of bring those guys along while also pushing them, it’s good. It’ll be good to get up there and work with those guys and pick their brains. I can’t wait.”
