When it comes to Bills free agent QB signee Tyrod Taylor head coach Rex Ryan invariably touts Taylor as one of the fastest quarterbacks in the NFL. But Taylor insists he’s got much more to offer.
When asked about how most comment about Taylor’s speed first when describing his skill set, he’s not offended by it, but he does believe he’s a pretty darn good passer too.
“Maybe guys don’t know about the throwing ability, but that’s something to prove,” said Taylor. “And that’s a challenge that I take on. If it’s about throwing I know I can throw with anyone, so I look forward to those opportunities to show my arm off. But running is also a plus because in this league the defenses are getting faster and you have to be able to string the play out. It’s not necessarily running 50 yards or trying to make a big play. It’s about keeping the chains moving so whatever you have to do.”
Taylor is encouraged that offensive coordinator Greg Roman has an offense that can morph and change to adapt to the talents of any quarterback on Buffalo’s roster. So whoever winds up winning the quarterback competition will have his talents maximized by Roman.
“I think this offense definitely does a good job of getting the quarterback in the best situation,” said Taylor. “Coach Roman does a good job of catering to his quarterback. Whatever the quarterback can do well he does a good job of putting the quarterback in the best situation. Right now it’s pretty simple as far as everyone is learning the same offense. So I’m pretty sure once the game plans and stuff start you cater to whoever is first in.”
