It was a late offseason release, but the Eagles in parting ways with veteran G Evan Mathis have opened up what sounds like widespread interest in the former Pro Bowl guard.
Earning Pro Bowl nods in each of the last two years and a 1st-Team All-Pro honor in 2013, up to a half dozen teams are interested in signing Mathis per his agent Drew Rosenhaus. Rosenhaus appeared on WQAM radio in Miami claiming that several teams have already made contact expressing interest.
While the Bills, like most other teams would see Mathis as an upgrade, it’s hard to believe Buffalo would want to get into a bidding war for Mathis’ services. The club is trying to lock up Marcell Dareus long term with what’s expected to be a landmark contract and adding a guard, albeit a pretty good one, doesn’t look like it would fit into the Bills salary cap equation.
Rosenhaus said the approach for Mathis would be a methodical one leading up to NFL training camps opening in late July.
