Bills GM Doug Whaley called negotiating a contract extension for Pro Bowl DT Marcell Dareus a “top priority” this offseason. For Dareus it doesn’t sound like it carries quite as much weight.
In an appearance on the John Murphy Show Thursday night, Dareus was asked about the progress of contract talks between his camp and the Bills. Dareus doesn’t worry about it as he prefers to focus on his game rather than how much he’ll be getting paid in the future.
“Whatever they’re going to do, they’re going to do,” Dareus said. “It’s not anything that I can focus on right now. It’s out of my hands. I’m just going to continue to do what I have to do for the team because they have me for a year. At the same time I’m going to do the best that I can no matter what they’re paying me whether it’s 100 or two, whatever it is. I’m just going to do the best that I can. I just love my job, so it is what it is.”
Dareus has been training out at the EXOS training center in Phoenix for most of the offseason. He’s also spent time back at his alma mater the University of Alabama. Some of his teammates have been training with him including LeSean McCoy, Stefan Charles, Richie Incognito and Tyrod Taylor.
All the training has Dareus anxious for training camp.
“I’m looking forward to it,” said Dareus. “Not being out there on the field… it’s a way of life for me and way for me to escape a lot of things. I just have fun. Of course I look forward to training camp. I miss my guys. We all love each other and want the best for each other. The fans are going to be out there. We really enjoy them coming out to support us every day. It’s something we all look forward to.”
