He was traded to the Bills in the 2013 offseason and when given a playing opportunity he flourished. Two years and a couple of 10-sack seasons later Jerry Hughes is facing the team that made him a first-round pick, but rarely let him get on the field. So is there added motivation going against the Colts?
“No, not at all,” Hughes said. “It’s Week 1 in the NFL and I’m just excited to be back on the field playing football so it doesn’t matter who it was, they were going to get me full speed no matter what.”
Hughes spent his first three seasons in the NFL buried on a depth chart at defensive end behind Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis. When asked what kept him from getting his career off the ground sooner, Hughes had a one word answer.
“Opportunity,” he said.
