Hurdles still left for Karlos to clear

Bills RB Karlos Williams is still immersed in the concussion protocol this week. GM Doug Whaley laid out what still lies ahead for the rookie running back before he can get on the practice field.

In his weekly appearance on Bills flagship WGR Sportsradio 550, Whaley was encouraged by Williams’ progress, but said it’s still too early to know if Williams can return for Sunday’s game against Cincinnati.

“I think we’re presently surprised,” said Whaley of Williams improvement. “There haven’t been any setbacks. He had some tests Monday and I’ll be getting those reports to see where he is. It’s always a positive sign when the medical staff doesn’t come in and say, ‘We have a problem and he’s not responding.’ He’s responding to treatment and he’s getting better and better. Will he play this weekend? Only time will tell and we’ll know later on in the week.”

As for what hurdles Williams still has to clear Whaley said there are still a number of tests.

“He has a bunch of tests and then he has to be cleared by an independent neurologist before he can step on the field,” said Whaley. “That’s a league-mandated rule and we’ll follow that to a ‘T.’”
