Mario Williams and Marcell Dareus both expressed their opinions of Buffalo’s defensive scheme and how they feel it’s not maximizing their strengths as players. Head coach Rex Ryan said he doesn’t disagree with them.
“I would say I would probably agree with them when you look at it,” said Ryan. “Should we have rushed more this past week in particular? That’s probably true.
“I’m not perfect as a play caller and all that and I know that surprises you guys, but I try to do the best I can. If I’m going to make a mistake it’s going to be something I feel strongly about, but if it doesn’t work then that happens. I get it.
“I’m going to say this, Mario Williams in my opinion he did a tremendous job of dropping when we put him in coverage. He takes a lot of pride in it. I think he does a great job of it. Obviously when you look at it and I get it he gets paid to rush the quarterback, but we get paid to win. What I was trying to do was get the guy out of rhythm initially. I think initially it was working pretty good, but I think I lived in it too much. I don’t necessarily disagree with Marcell and Mario’s views.”
