The Bills were without WR Sammy Watkins in last Sunday’s win over Arizona. Long term Watkins’ availability is critical to the success of Buffalo’s passing game. His ailing foot however, is compromising his availability. Bills GM Doug Whaley provided an update on Watkins status in an appearance on Bills flagship station WGR Sportsradio 550.
“We lean on our medical staff and if they clear him and say he’s ready to go… the one thing we know for sure is Sammy is a competitor and wants to play,” said Whaley. “So if the medical staff says he’s ready to go and there’s no further damage or anything that can happen to his foot that will set him back for a long period of time then we’re going to let him play because that’s what he wants to do and helps us to keep on stacking these ‘W’s.”
Head coach Rex Ryan said Monday that they’ll see how he gets through the week. He’s hopeful that Watkins comments on social media last Saturday that he was good to go are an encouraging sign, but that he won’t know for sure until he sees him on the practice field.
