Buffalo has three picks on day two of the draft tonight at 44, 75 and 91 overall. Head coach Sean McDermott in an appearance on the John Murphy Show explained what caliber of player they’re hoping to land with each of those three choices tonight.
“There are a lot of great players on the board and we have to find those players,” he said. “It’s important that we’ve done our homework and have done the right evaluation on these players and identify them and get them at the right spot. We’ve got some needs to fill yet, so we’re going to find the best players we can along with the combination of the guys who can win off the field for us.”
In a draft that’s considered deep at cornerback, safety, wide receiver and tight end, the odds of landing starting caliber talent is realistic.
“You want to look for players in the first three rounds that have starting ability. Whether they do when they come in remains to be seen, but have that starter ability. Then after that the draft falls from there. That doesn’t mean that a fifth-round pick isn’t going to come in and start. If they earn the right to start that’s what we’re going to do.”
